If you are a true Monopoly lover then, you may be very disappointed in "Make-Your-Own-Opoly". There are some major differences in the board from the original Parker Brother's game such as the jail and free parking and "go to jail" have been all changed to loose a turn and roll again and things of that nature. Also, there are no hotels or houses so you were not able to increase land value by developing properties. All in all I found it too far from the concept of the original (or parker brother produced variations) monopoly game to be able to enjoy it as a "Monopoly" alternative.
Other deterrents include that there are only a couple of plain sheets of paper sent with it for your money and property cards to be printed on. One would need to use their own printer paper if they wanted much money at all.

This is a wonderful concept. The kit comes with a box, game board, special paper and software to help with the templates. The properties and game play are similar to a simplified version of Monopoly. You chose the names for each property and put a unique picture on each space. When you enter the photograph and the name for a particular space, the program will print up a picture to stick on the board and a corresponding property card. You can customize the money with the faces of family members, famous people or your pets. (Give some thought to which people are on the higher and lower denominations of the money!) THe project works best if you have a digital camera and a scanner. If you are making the board for family, a scanner is particularly handy because they will probably want you to use some old non-digital pictures.

I have made up several customized games for family and for a church auction. I enjoyed making the customized game board. The end result looks quite professional if you work carefully. Be advised, though, this is not a quick 3 hour project. It takes a lot of time to make up a game board. The games come out best if you put some thought into the pictures on the game spaces. There are "Good News" "Bad News" cards that can be customized to reflect good, bad and funny things that might happen to a family or organization. Making the game board can be a fun family project. Everyone enjoys picking out the pictures and arguing about what you should put for good and bad news. You would proably want to have an adult or an adolescent actually paste the pictures onto the board because getting them straight is so important.

I have bought and used several versions of this item. The newest version is easier to use than the original version. It really helps to have a high resolution printer because the images that you stick on the board are quite small. You can definitely use photographs, but due to the size of each space, I would avoid using too many group pictures. Some reviewers have complained that the customized game is less complex and less challenging than real Monopoly. True, there are no houses and hotels. However, when I wanted to make a game more interesting, I added a few phrases to some of the "Bad News" cards. I was also able to use my computer to alter the rule sheet to add some game variations that fit with the particular family or organization that would be using the game.

The game's educational value can increase depending on the way you use it. For instance if you were making a game board for a church or synagogue, you could customize the board to reflect the various committees and rituals that make up the life of the congregation. If used in this way, it can stimulate productive discussion. On the other hand, you can also choose to customize the board to simply be a fun, lightearted game.

In the past year I have owned a few touchscreen phones. LG Xenon & LG Neon & Samsung Flight - just to name a few. Each phone had its perks but always had some difficulties. Touchscreen being inaccurate, phone too brittle (damaged/broke easily), screen freezing, etc. Each costing enough to keep replacing - so after replacing these type of phones almost every 3 months - I decided to buy the strive. I use my phone more for texting than anything else - so this choice seemed great - I was very happy with the phone after unboxing it. The keypad is very accurate - no problems hitting the keys - easy to use - LOVE the color purple!!! Extremely happy with my purchase - no touch screen so I avoid the problem associated with screen problems. The only thing I found wrong was the phone is made of a plastic type material which shows every finger print. I solved that problem by buying a clear protective case for the phone - PROBLEMS solved and LOVING my phone!!!

AT&T plays catch up with the entry level 3G Samsung Strive A687, and for the most part does it pretty well. For a phone that comes free with a minimum 2 year/20 dollar voice and/or data service, you're actually getting a pretty nice unit.

The screen is lovely (though no iPhone) and easy to read in all but the brightest outdoor conditions. The colors are rich and the text is quite legible. It is very tempting to try to use it as a touch screen, which of course it isn't, hahah. Build quality feels a bit flimsy, but enough to hold up under daily use. The slide action of the keyboard it quite nice as well and it stays put well in either the open or closed position. Keypad action is a bit stiff (and the whole thing flexes a bit), but it gets the job done. I prefer it to onscreen keypads myself. The other buttons work well with good ergonomics

The Strive feels fairly light and well balanced in the hand, yet still substantial. I'm also rather fond of the purple and grey color scheme. The 2MP camera actually takes much better photos than I expected, though in low light it gets rather grainy. The camcorder feature is pretty much a joke though with it's small size and jerky playback. The music player does a decent job, but Samsung didn't include a headphone jack so you'll need to pony up for Bluetooth headphones for real listening. Charging and other USB connections use the same port.

Well, now to the most important aspect for a phone -- the calls. Sound quality is decent has good volume, though it could be better. Callers sometimes complain that they have trouble understanding what is said though, so perhaps the mic quality isn't that great. The interface it the standard one from AT&T, with a few new features since the Propel model. It is easy to check email with a number of providers and send instant messages. I think the no cost web based address book is the best feature and can be really handy if you lose the phone or get a new one. The Mobil Share (photos & video) costs ten bucks a month though, or 35¢ a transfer. That seems a bit steep since there are other providers have similar services at no added cost.

The battery life comes in at a rather poor three hours of talk time, so if you are one of those folks who are on the road and on your phone all day long, the Strive is not for you. But if you are on the phone less than that, fall under AT&T's coverage map, are not yet a messaging or data service customer and want some of the more modern bells and whistle in a 3G messaging phone -- you might find the Strive a nice fit. Free is good!

Go find the LP, March 4, 2003

If you like the Who's later work-- the guitar-smashing stuff-- you probably won't like this album. That said, A Quick One is my all-time favorite Who record. The songs are weird and funny and a blast to sing along with. Even though, as others have mentioned, the songs were written by various members of the band, the album has a distinct flavor of its own.

Unfortunately, when the record folks put together the CD, they BUTCHERED the album. The original recording of 'Happy Jack' was not included at all (!!), and a whole bunch of irrelevant tracks were thrown in which completely shattered the mood and sound of the original album. They did pitch in an acoustic version of 'Happy Jack' as if to make up for dropping the original track, but the extras should have been saved for a separate CD. It is jarring to hear the Who singing the Batman theme on the same CD with 'Whiskey Man.'

I love this album and you should hear it and love it too-- so crank up your record player and go find the LP.

A classic 60's pop album made even better., January 18, 2006

Like so many mid-60's UK groups the Who saved thier best songs for thier singles. The group's first two albums are a varying inconsistent mix of great-to-weak originals and cover versions. Despite those drawbacks, "A Quick One" is a legendary British Pop album, and a necessary listen for Who fans to find out how this band quickly evolved to create thier later masterpieces. Get around the weak tracks and you'll discover the amazing title track (foreshadowing "Tommy" by 2 years) and the Power Pop classic "So Sad About Us" which was later covered by The Jam.

This CD has come out in the USA in 3 Versions - all from MCA.

1) The original "A Quick One (Happy Jack)" CD from the late 80's - with a "Compact Disc-Compact Price" ad on the insert and a generic green design back with a simple track listing. The sound quality ranges from tinny to muddy due to MCA's using of the old LP master tape (and some tracks appear in simulated stereo just like they did on the original Decca/MCA album). No bonus cuts, but it does have the original version of "Happy Jack" which SHOULD have been included in the remastered version to keep us American fans happy. If you're curious about this album you can pick this CD up dirt cheap...but I reccomend the later versions.

2) The remastered CD with notes and bonus cuts from 1995. But most of this CD used the mono mixes instead, along with some cuts in stereo and simulated stereo. Producer Jon Astley told ICE magazine that he used the mono mixes because he thought they sounded better. The original master tapes were stored at former Who manager Kit Lambert's house in France and were supposibly destroyed in a flood decades ago, so Astley couldnt remix them.

3) The remastered album with the same number and packaging, but now back in Stereo. My copy had a sticker that said "CLASSIC WHO remixed & remastered in STEREO for the first time". If it doesnt have that sticker dont buy it. Since 1995 copies of the master tapes have been discovered and the entire album has been remixed almost in true stereo (Almost because "See My Way" appears once again in fake stereo!). The rest of the album has never sounded better. Tracks like "Heatwave" and "Don't Look Away" that were orignally in distorted fake stereo now jump out of the speakers with a powerful true stereo presence. This is the version of "A Quick One" you should buy.

How to get "A Quick One" in STEREO!, March 3, 2004

Alot of people have had problems finding "A Quick One" in stereo. Here's the deal, your best bet is to buy the Polydor UK version of the CD. The artwork on the US MCA version is unchanged so it's impossible to know if it's the correct CD without taking the shrinkwrap off. Once you do that, you can't return it if it is the incorrect CD. With the Polydor import, all of the artwork on the package is the same (including the 1995 copyright date) EXCEPT for the catalog number on the binding. This will allow you to see if you have indeed received the correct CD without tearing the shrinkwrap off.
Here are the different catalog numbers:
* Polydor 527758-2 - maily mono
* Polydor 589800-2 - mainly stereo

Viki Lareau packs a lot of sound advice into this no-nonsense, easy to read text. Short and concise, the seven chapters walk you through the basics of entering into the business of marketing and selling your jewelry successfully. Lareau presents a realistic view of the business while at the same time offering up creative and inspiring suggestions in the form of full color photos, personal anecdotes, and real-life success stories of fellow jewelry artists. She tells you things you may not have thought of as well as things you know but don't want to admit you need to deal with to be in business for yourself! all in all, I found it very helpful. If you are seriously thinking about going into business for yourself, I'd suggest combining this text with "Business Plan in a Day" to really get started on the right path.

If you are interested in knowing step by step how to get started in the handmade jewelry business - this has to be the best book out there!

It's written by a woman who knows what she is talking about and has logically layed out the much needed details on how to do it. The book is full of information and tips, however it's also concise and easy to read. Viki has generously shared her experience and knowledge and I feel the book contains the necessary answers to questions that anyone interested in getting started will find of ENORMOUS value.

I have been to her bead store in Tacoma and attended one of her classes, and I have always been impressed by how professional her business is run - and that was before I read her book! Every small detail from tying your purchase with gold ribbon around the top of the bag, to well trained and friendly sales people - she definitely walks the talk!!
